Thursday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time I:

God's Covenant with Creation

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Genesis 9:1-13
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 102:16-18, 19-21, 29, 22-23
Gospel: Mark 8:27-33

“I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth (NRSV, Gen 9:13).”

Let us pray.

Father, the story of the flood is a story of the destructive forces that humans are capable of unleashing on the world. But in the midst of all of this evil, Father, you bring the one good man, Noah, through the waters of death and then you recreate the world for all creatures.

Father, how we rejoice in the covenant that you make with us.  You are always faithful to us.  No matter how we may stray through bad will or even lack of understanding you are always there.  Your Word is present to each and everyone, in every situation, extending to us forgiveness of our sins if only we will accept it and allow that forgiveness to change our lives.  The gift of your life, Father, and the opportunity to grow in it is always, in every time and place, offered to us.

Father you are ever true to your covenant.  May we be faithful as well to you, to one another, and to the world committed to our care, that all of creation may be a constant manifestation of your goodness and beauty.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
