Thursday 17th Ord I

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Jesus Teaches from the bronze doors of St. James Cathedral, Seattle, Washington, 1999

Thursday of the Seventeenth week in Ordinary Time:      The New and the Old

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Exodus 40:16-21, 34-38
Responsorial Psalm:
Psalms 84:3, 4, 5-6, 8, 11
Gospel: Matthew 13:47-53

‘Have you understood all this?’ They answered, ‘Yes.’ And Jesus said to them, ‘Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.’ When Jesus had finished these parables, he left that place (NRSV, Matthew 13:51-53).

Let us pray,

Father, as we listen to your Word, ever present to us, always speaking once and for all your one truth, may we grow in that truth, coming to recognize something new in every moment while not surrendering anything of what we learned up until then.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
