Tuesday 22nd Ord I

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

James Tissot, The Man Possessed by an Unclean Spirit

Tuesday of the 22nd Week in Ordinary Time:                    Authority and Power

Readings for Mass
First Reading: First Thessalonians 5:1-6, 9-11
Responsorial Psalm:
Psalms 27:1, 4, 13-14
Gospel: Luke 4:31-37

They were all amazed and kept saying to one another, ‘What kind of utterance is this? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and out they come (NRSV, Luke 4:36)!’

Let us pray.

Father, just as Jesus exercised his authority and power not over human beings but over demons, so may we too not try to dominate but serve one another.  Thus may we grow in the power and authority necessary to thrust out evil from among us.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
