May 14: St. Matthias

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Duccio di Buoninsegna, St. Matthias (Maestà), Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, Siena, 1308-11

Feast of St. Matthias:                                               I Have Made Known to You Everything

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Acts 1:15-17, 20-26
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 113:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8
Gospel: John 15:9-17

‘I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father (NRSV, John 15:15b).’

Let us pray.

Father, because you have only one act that is your very being, you just create, save and reveal yourself in that one act.  You speak your one Word at the depth of our being through your Word at every moment.  In our Lord Jesus Christ this one Word is made flesh and is visible and tangible.

May we be ever responsive to your one Word, Father, and in every moment grow in our knowledge of you as we grow also in the divine life that you always share with us in the Holy Spirit.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen
