Sept 8 Birth Mary

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Benozzo Gozzoli, Birth of Mary, Castelfiorentino, Biblioteca Communale, 1491

Birth of the Virgin Mary:                                                           Every Moment is Possible Rebirth

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Micah 5:1-4
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 13:6, 6
Gospel: Matthew 1:18-23

Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit (NRSV, Matthew: 1:18).

Let us pray.

Father, physical birth is a once and for all moment in our lives but at every moment the Word, always present to us, challenges us to let go of the past and to be born anew.  Every moment involves the possibility of the Holy Spirit coming to us in a new and previously unexpected manner.  Born physically into the world once and for all, may every moment be for us a new birth of growth in the life of the Holy Spirit, a growth that will continue throughout all of eternity.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
