Readings for Mass
First Reading: Numbers 21:4-9
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 78:1-2, 34-35, 36-37, 38
Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11
Gospel: John 3:13-17

‘Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him (NRSV, John 3:17).’

Let us pray.

Father, how foolish of us to think that you ever require payment for our sins.  Over the centuries we have tried to repay you, to give you gifts in exchange for forgiveness.  There is only one, true sacrifice and that is the giving, receiving and sharing that is your own inner life.  That one sacrifice, effectve in creation in evert time and place, has been made manifest for us in our Lord Jesus Christ, in all that he is, but most clearly in his death on the Cross.  May we who are called to participate in your divine life be caught up in that same sacrifice, that we who receive may also through Christ and in your Holy Spirit give and share all that we have.

Amen.  Alleluia.
