Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Rembrandt van Rijn: The Widow's Mite, British Museum, London, 1650-55

Saturday of the Ninth week in Ordinary Time:

Choose First the Kingdom of God

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Tobit 12:1, 5-15, 20
Responsorial Psalm: Tobit 13:2, 6
Gospel: Mark 12:38-44

For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on (NRSV, Mark 12:44).’

Let us pray,

Father, in all of his preaching, Jesus challenges us to accept you into our lives with everything that we are.  As you share your divine life with us, our response must be total as was the generosity of the widow with her mite.

Father, fill us with your life that we in turn may share that life with all of our sisters and brothers by loving them with the love that you have for us.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen
