James Tissot:  Priests Ask Jesus by Whose Authority He Acts

Saturday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Sirach 51:12-20
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 19:8, 9, 10, 11
Gospel: Mark 11:27-33

Jesus said to them, ‘Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things (NRSV, Mark 11:33b).

Let us pray.

Father, you reveal yourself in your Word to all of humanity, in every situation, at every moment.  Because we are creatures, because of our cultural situation, and especially because of our common and personal sinfulness, we often find it difficult to hear and to understand.  Often we even close our minds to you.  It seems then, Lord, that you do not speak, that you abandon us in our confusion.  May we, Lord, always be open to listen to you, to allow your Word to speak to us, that we may grow in understanding that leads to greater acceptance of your gift of divine life.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
