Saturday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time I:

All are Called to Live Transfigured Lives

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Hebrews 11:1-7
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 145:2-3, 4-5, 10-11
Gospel: Mark 9:2-13

Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them (NRSV, Mk 9:2).

Father, all four of the gospels describe the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain.  Today we realize that these accounts are really a resurrection appearance moved back into Jesus' public ministry to prepare us for what is to come.  It is John, however, the last to write, who makes clear to us that Jesus is indeed transfigured, resurrected, throughout his entire life.  From the moment of his initial response in Mary’s womb, Jesus so accepts you, Father, into his life that he is truly, from the beginning, the Word made flesh.  His life then is always a resurrected life, a life transfigured, at every moment.

Father, thanks to the gift of your life that you share with everyone of us, also from the womb, our lives can be transfigured, indeed resurrected, throughout, also from the beginning.

May we then, all of us, sharers in your divine life from the beginning and called constantly to grow in it, lead truly transfigured lives, manifesting your life, Father, to all by what we do and what we say.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
