Saturday 13th Ord I

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Michiel van der Borch:  Isaac Blessing Jacob, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, The Hague, 1332

Saturday of the Thirteenth week in Ordinary Time:  Good out of Evil

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Genesis 27:1-5, 15-29
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 135:1-2, 3-4, 5-6
Gospel: Matthew 9:14-17

Isaac said "Are you really my son Esau?’ He answered, ‘I am.’ Then he said, ‘Bring meal to me, that I may eat of my son’s game and bless you (NRSV, Genesis 27: 24-25).’

Let us pray.

Father, every moment is the saving moment.  No matter how we turn away from you in sin, you are always there in your Word offering us forgiveness, reconciliation and the possibility of new life in you.  Even when we tried to banish your Son, Jesus, from the world by putting him to an ignominious death, through your power Jesus triumphed over the grave and your Spirit continued to be poured out upon us.

May we be ever ready in every situation, Father, even the most deceitful, to accept your forgiveness and blessing and the share in your life that you always promise us in the Holy Spirit.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
