from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Monday of the Ninth week in Ordinary Time:                     The Challenge to Death and New Life

Readings for Mass
First Reading: First Corinthians 1:18-25

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 112:1-2, 3-4, 5-6
Gospel: Mark 12:1-12

For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Let us pray.

Lord God, every moment of Jesus’ life was death and resurrection, of living out your inner life of giving, receiving and sharing that is the one, true sacrifice.  This is nowhere more clear than in Jesus’ death on the Cross which was truly his hour of glory.

Lord God, may we too, his sisters and brothers, live our lives in imitation of Jesus, dying at every moment to our old selves in order that we might be reborn to an ever increasing share in your divine life.

May we share in everything that Jesus is, living out with him the one, true sacrifice that is the very life that you, Lord God, offer to every one of us, even from the womb.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
