“All things can be done for the one who believes (NRSV, Mk 9:23b).

Let us pray.

Father, so often we come to you in prayer, asking you to take over in our lives, to heal a loved one, to find us employment, to help us pass an examination.  There is one thing that you do for us, Father, and that before we even ask: you offer us a share in your divine life.  In your one act that is your being you offer this gift through your Word for the first time in our mother’s womb.  It is the acceptance of this gift that constitutes us as human beings. This, your one act and its gift to us, continues to manifest itself in every moment of our lives even into the world to come, gift ever challenging us to accept it more fully.

Father, in our prayer to you we frequently ask you to change, to do something that you were not doing before.  It is not you, Father, who changes but we who change.  Saying “yes” to you is belief, faith.  It is we who must grow in faith in a way that empowers us to confront every situation in which we find ourselves and to triumph over it.

Healing power went out from your Son Jesus, the Word made flesh.  That same power, which is your life, can go out as well from us to others.  But in every case the person must accept it and make it their own.  Finally we are responsible for who we are and who we become.   Every moment can be saving.

Father, may everyone of us live lives of faith ministering to one another that all that needs to be done will be accomplished and we may all be one in you and in one another.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
