Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Monday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time I: Do Well and Be Accepted

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Genesis 4:1-15, 25
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 50:1, 8, 16-17, 20-21
Gospel: Mark 8:11-13

The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted (NRSV, Gen 4:6-7)?”

Let us pray,

So often, Lord, everything seems to be going wrong for us, while others seem to be having success upon success.  And so we get angry with ourselves and our sisters and brothers.  May we always have the wisdom, Lord, to look inward and there encounter your Word, always present to us, offering us a superabundant share in your life.  This gift of your life enables us to encounter any situation and to transform it into the saving moment.

May we be ever mindful, Lord, of your Son Jesus, the Word made flesh, who overcame the ignominy of the Cross that it might be salvation for all.  May we always walk in his divine footsteps that apparent darkness may give way to eternal light, not only for us but for all.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen
