Monday 24th Ord I

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Sebastiano Ricci, Christ with the Centurion, Naples, Museo di Capodimonte

Monday of the 24th week in Ordinary Time:  It is Faith that Saves and Heals

Readings for Mass
First Reading: First Timothy 2:1-8
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 28:2, 7, 8-9
Gospel: Luke 7:1-10

When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, he said, ‘I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.’ When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave in good health (NRSV, Luke 7:9-10).

Let us pray.

Father, you always respect the freedom that you give us through the Word in the power of the Holy Spirit.  You never take over in our lives.  The wonderful things that occur are the result of your life and power truly made our own through faith, through acceptance of the gift of a share in your divine life.  Our prayers and example can never take over either in the lives of our sisters and brothers but can move them to say “yes” to you freely as we have done.  May we always be an example to others but, as did the centurion’s servant, may we even be responsive to the greater faith of others around us that we too may accept you more fully and grow in your life and healing power.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
