Monday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time I: Father, Word and Holy Spirit
Readings for Mass
For we know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you, because our message of the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction (NRSV, First Thessalonians 1:4-5).
Let us pray.
Father, Paul realized that the people of the Church in Thessaloniki had been chosen because they had received the gospel not only in word but in power and the Holy Spirit. What Paul failed to grasp is that your Word is in fact spoken to every human being who has ever existed challenging always to accept the power and life of the Holy Spirit and to grow in it in every moment. It is this presence of the Word offering life in the Spirit that constitutes us as human beings. May we, all of us, listen to the Word and accept the gift of divine life in the Holy Spirit in ever increasing share.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
