Monday 14th Ord I

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Unknown Netherlandish:  Jacob Sleeping, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, c.1500

Monday of the 14th Week in Ordinary Time:                        Every Situation is Saving

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Genesis 28:10-22
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 91:1-2, 3-4, 14-15
Gospel: Matthew 9:18-26

Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the lord is in this place—and I did not know it!’ And he was afraid, and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven (NRSV, Genesis 28:16-17).’

Let us pray.

Father, we have set aside certain days and places in our lives as sacred in order better to find you.  If only we could realize that it is you who seek us out, not on this day or that, or in this place or another, but in every moment, everywhere.  Every time and place is filled with your presence and every situation is saving.  May we be ever responsive to your Word always given to us offering us divine life and growth in the Holy Spirit.  May we share that same Holy Spirit with others through acts of love and service.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen
