Monday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time:              Life from Death

Readings for Mass

First Reading: Exodus 1:8-14, 22
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 124:1-3, 4-6, 7-8
Gospel: Matthew 10:34--11:1

But the more the Israelites were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread (NRSV, Exodus 1:12a).

Let us pray.

Father, the selling of Joseph into slavery, the oppression of the Israelites in Egypt, and especially the passion and death of Jesus, are effective signs for us of the reality of all of human experience.  We are called at every moment to die to what we have been up until then in order the your life may abound even further in us that we may become truly a new creation.  Moments, Father, that seem like tragedy are in reality, like every moment, saving and give us the possible of growing in your divine life.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
