Friday 17th Ord I

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Gustave Dore: Jesus in the Synagogue, La Sainte Bible, 1865

Friday of the Seventeenth week in Ordinary Time:           It is Faith that Heals

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Leviticus 23:1, 4-11, 15-16, 27, 34-37
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 81:3-4, 5-6, 10-11
Gospel: Matthew 13:54-58

Jesus came to his home town and began to teach the people in their synagogue, so that they were astounded and said, ‘Where did this man get this wisdom and these deeds of power?. . . And he did not do many deeds of power there, because of their unbelief (NRSV, Matthew 13:54,58).

Father, we believe that you are always present to us through your Word, offering us forgiveness, reconciliation and new life in you, but we also understand that you never take over in our lives.  Your power is given to us to use and it is through our acceptance of it, through our faith in you, that we are strong and capable of doing all that needs to be done.  It is through our faith in you that we are made whole.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
