Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Karel Fabritius, The Beheading of St. John the Baptist, Rijksmuseum, New Amsterdam, 1640

The Beheading of St. John the Baptist:                               Always Faithful to the Word

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Jeremiah 1:17-19
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 71:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 15, 17
Gospel: Mark 6:17-29

‘I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter (Mark 6:25b).’

Let us pray.

Father, John the Baptist, calling the people to repentance for their sins, was ever faithful to the Word as he understood the Word spoken to him and all of us.  May we also listen carefully that we too may hear and live out the challenge which is given to us in every moment to accept life in the Holy Spirit and to grow in it.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
