A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Claes Brouwer, The New Jerusalem, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, The Hague, 1430

Feast of St. Bartholomew, apostle:                                       All are Apostles; All are Sent

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Revelation 21:9-14
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 145:10-11, 12-13, 17-18
Gospel: John 1:45-51

And the wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb (NRSV, Reelation 21:14).

Let us pray.

Father, the first apostles were those who saw the risen Lord and were then sent to proclaim the good news.  The holy women were apostles as were the Twelve; James, the brother of the Lord, and Paul; and Paul tells us hundreds more.  Actually all of us who have received the good news are also apostles because we are all in turn sent.  May we always be faithful to our commisssion to announce the good news of the resurrection in everything that we say and do.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
