Readings for Mass
First Reading: Second Corinthians 9:6-10
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 112:1-2, 5-6, 7-8, 9
Gospel: John 12:24-26

‘He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor;
   his righteousness
* endures for ever
(NRSV, 2 Cor 9:9).’

Let us pray,

Father, thank you for the gift of St. Lawrence who encourages us to forget our own needs and to think of the needs of others, especially the economically deprived and hungry.  Lawrence even gave up his own life in your service and the service of his sisters and brothers.  Apparently vanquished by his enemies, Lawrence is in reality victor with Jesus, passing through physical death in triumph.  May we learn from his example and walk in his footsteps.

Thropugh Christ our Lord.  Amen.
