A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Bernardo Daddi, The Assumption of the Virgin, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, c.1430

The Solemnity of the Assumption:                                        The Glorification of Humanity

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Revelation 11:19; 12:1-6, 10
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 45:10, 11, 12, 16
Second Reading: First Corinthians 15:20-26
Gospel: Luke 1:39-56

And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.  Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed (NRSV, Luke 1:46-48)’

Let us pray.

Father, in today’s feast we rejoice with Mary in the destiny to which you call her but also the destiny which is ours as well, to live forever with you and all whom we love in the fullness of our humanity, in body and soul.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
