Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time C:

All are Anointed in the Holy Spirit

Readings for Mass
First Reading: First Samuel 26:2, 7-9, 12-13, 22-23
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 103:1-2, 3-4, 8, 10, 12-13
Second Reading: First Corinthians 15:45-49
Gospel: Luke 6:27-38

The Lord forbid that I should raise my hand against the Lord’s anointed (NRSV, 1 Sam 26: 11a).

Let us pray.

Father, as kings and priests are anointed with oil, and prophets of old and Jesus are anointed by your Holy Spirit, so too are we all anointed even from our mother’s womb by your giving and our acceptance of the Spirit.  In the same one act that is your being, Father, that anoints from the womb, you also anoint us with oil in baptism as priests, prophet, and monarchs with Jesus, one with him in announcing your coming reign.

May we whom you call, Father, to be your royal priesthood, not only live that intimate union with you that is offered to us at every moment, but may we share it with alll of our sisters and brothers by going out to them in acts of love and service.  May we dedicate ourselves as well to the care and recreation of the world around us.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
