Sixth Sunday of Easter C:                                       I Saw No Temple in the City

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Acts 15:1-2, 22-29
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8
Second Reading: Revelation 21:10-14, 22-23
Gospel: John 14:23-29

I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb (NRSV, Revelation 21:22).

Let us pray.

Father, how often in days gone by and places far away, our sisters and brothers have had to travel to find you.  And at the end of their journey, they could not even stand in your presence but one especially designated would represent them.

In Jesus we have finally come to realize what you have spoken to us all along, that you do not live among us in a temple or shrine and that there is no need of priests to act as intermediaries in our name.  No, Father, all are your people and you dwell in our midst as a family gathered together and indeed in each one of us.  You are present to all through the Word who speaks to us once and for all in every moment and in the Holy Spirit who brings us a share of your divine life if only we will accept it.

May we always listen to your Word, spoken within us and in the flesh in our Lord Jesus Christ, and hopefully increase in understanding as we grow in your divine life that you always offer us in the Holy Spirit.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen
