Fourth Sunday of Lent C:                                       Foregiveness without Payment

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Joshua 5:9, 10-12
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7
Second Reading: Second Corinthians 5:17-21
Gospel: Luke 15:1-3, 11-32

‘This son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found (NRSV, Lk 15:24a)!’

Let us pray,

Father, like the prodigal son we often stray from home and squander the gifts that you have given to us.  In our shame we hesitate to return and when we do it is to beg for forgiveness.

Father at every moment, no matter how we have sinned, in your great love, you offer forgiveness even before it asked.  Nothing is demanded in payment, only that, in accepting forgiveness, we turn away from our sins and indeed offer that same forgiveness to our sisters and brothers.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
