20th Sunday Ord C

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Marc Chagall, Jeremiah in the Pit, Franklin Bowles Galleries, New York, 1956

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time C:                                Faithful to the Word

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Jeremiah 38:4-6, 8-10
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 40:2, 3, 4, 18
Second Reading: Hebrews 12:1-4
Gospel: Luke 12:49-53

So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king’s son, which was in the court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down by ropes. Now there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud (NRSV, Jeremiah 38:6).

Let us pray.

Father, as Jeremiah and your prophets listened so carefully to your Word spoken in every moment to all and were faithful to it regardless of cost, may we, inspired by their actions, follow their example in attentiveness and courage, likewise being faithful in all that we do.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
