Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time: The Word is Near
Readings for Mass
The word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart for you to observe (NRSV, Deuteronomy 30:14).
Let us pray.
Father, Moses climbed the holy mountain in thunder and lightning to receive your Law and came away with a code of conduct, in spite of everything, very much conditioned by history. Elijah on the same holy mountain heard your voice not in the mountain storm but inside himself, a still small voice within. Elijah’s understanding was still not final but that is the route for us to find your will, by turning inward to the depths of our being and there listening to your Word always present to us, your Word spoken once and for all yet in every moment.
Father, may we listen attentively to your Word, and share our findings with one another, especially in the Church, that we may grow in understanding to govern our lives on our pilgrimage through this world and history to you, our Future. May we grow also in your life as thus we journey to you, our final yet inexhaustible goal.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
