14th Sunday in Ordinary Time:  I Will Comfort You

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Isaiah 66:10-14
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 66:1-3, 4-5, 6-7, 16, 20
Second Reading: Galatians 6:14-18
Gospel: Luke 10:1-12, 17-20

As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem (NRSV, Isaiah 66:13).

Let us pray.

Father, through your Word you are always present to us.  In what appears to be the worst of moments you are always there.  Even when we turn away from you in sin, you do not abandon us but through your Word you press in upon us offering us forgiveness and new life.

May we recognize, Father, that every moment is the saving moment, that as we accept your life in the power of the Holy Spirit, every moment may be blessing for us and our sisters and brothers.  With Jesus on the Cross may we find consolation and victory in what only appears to be defeat.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
