Work continues across the inventory of sites within East Renfrewshire.  Two sites are of particular interest:

  • Cowden Hall, Neilston has extensive remains of a range of heated glass houses and other features for which further information is proving frustratingly difficult to find.  This has led to some discoveries relating to James Boyd & Sons of Paisley, Hot House manufacturers - although not evidence of the company's involvement at Cowden Hall.
  • in contrast, there is a significant collection of material on Caldwell Estate at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh.  We have made some progress on uncovering details about the history of the site through the manuscripts of the Mure of Caldwell Family Papers and other sources.
The following diagram shows an extract of a time line covering some of the material.  It also is an illustration of some of our methods.
