Epsom and Ewell - Local Matters - Priorities

The Borough of Epsom and Ewell has been ruled by independent elected councillors for generations. As an Independent MP Mr. Blackman would happily consult with all local Councillors on national issues affecting the lives of local residents. As an Independent MP Mr. Blackman would not be distracted by ministerial office or careerism and would be able to devote his time to the service of the residents.

There are many and varied local matters and here are some priorities closest to Mr Blackman's heart:

  • Epsom District Hospital – all candidates, including Mr. Blackman, are pledged to fight for retaining full services in Epsom.
  • Local planning - Mr. Blackman will investigate and resist any further ugly building developments in the Borough of Epsom and Ewell.
  • Youth Services - more and better.
  • Meals on wheels for those in need.

Lionel Blackman accepts the scientific case that global warming and climate change is effected by human activity. He thus regards the issue as relevant to all local, national and international policies. He would at all turns seek to promote policies that would reduce carbon emissions.

This Independent Candidature is not connected to the various independent Residents' Associations of Epsom and Ewell. Mr Blackman does not wish any voter to be misled into thinking there is any formal approval of his campaign from any Residents' Associations. Needless to say he would still welcome votes from those constituents in the Borough who would welcome an Independent MP.  In Parliament he would would act independently of any political party. He would respect the views of Residents' Association councillors of the Borough of Epsom and Ewell and other local district councillors in the Parliamentary Constituency who represent parts of Ashtead and Banstead.
