Digital Ecosystem

The concept: 

When developing modern IT-systems the term DIGITAL ECOLOGY refers to the software and system developers desire to take into account the nature and the society's limited resources!

The Principle of Digital Ecology can be summarized in the following seven points:
  1. Do not reinvent the wheel , it's waste of resources
  2. Substitute reusable applications with tested and well proven open-source projects
  3. Make use of already existing knowledge and ideas
  4. Utilize as much as possible of digital media instead of paper media.                                                                        (Paper is a limited resource that is not available through search engines or not that easy to distribute as digital media)
  5. Minimize resources where use of resources are required 
  6. Prevent data to be managed and inputs entered in more than one place
  7. Reuse always digital elements (CODE, TEXT, DATA, etc.) unless the quality of the final product will suffer by it.

Defenition of Digital Ecosystem:

"Digital Ecosystems inherit concepts of open, loosely coupled, demand-driven, domain clustered, agent-based self-organized collaborative environment where species/agents form a temporary coalition (or longer term) for specific purposes or goals. Within this environment every agent is proactive and responsive for their own benefit or profit.
The essence of Digital Ecosystems is inspired by ecological and biological system concepts, and creating value by making connections through collective intelligence and promoting collaboration instead of unbridled competition and IT-based catalyst effects in a number of domains, to produce networked enriched communities, humanities and societies."
