Site information

The purpose of this website is to give match information on every match the England national football team have ever played. Each page contains meticulously researched statistics regarding team line-ups, venues, attendances, referees, goalscorers, captains and much more. It also contains a written match report for every single England match, thus giving details behind the figures, and bringing much more colour to some of the fantastic stories. This is, as far as I am aware, the only site on the internet to contain a written match report for every single England match.

I have decided to keep match reports fairly brief, and therefore they all contain between 200 and 350 words, regardless of how important or exciting the match was (with just two exceptions - the semi-final and final of the 1966 World Cup). The reason for this is that the more famous England matches have had millions of words written about them already, and readers of this site no doubt know all about them. However, many of the lesser-known matches have great stories of their own, and they deserve to be told. Here are just a few examples of some of the lesser-known matches you can read about here - all on the same site, for the very first time:
  • The time England recovered from 4-1 down at half-time to beat Scotland (Match No 009)
  • International football's first-ever substitution (Match No 093)
  • The match against Sweden that the Swedes still don't recognise as official (Match No 136)
  • The embarrassing start to a Wembley showdown with Italy (Match No 329)
  • England's last match with a non-neutral referee (Match No 676)
Peppered throughout the reports are mentions of landmark events in English footballing history - some well-known, many others less so. Also included within match reports are full league tables for every round-robin competition England have ever participated in - qualifying groups, finals group stages, British Home Championship tournaments and many lesser tournaments too.
