for Rogers Park, a coalition of concerned community members and organizational
partners working together to build a healthy, just Rogers Park community, is
pleased to announce the inauguration of the Ten Thousand Ripples
project here in our neighborhood. Ten Thousand Ripples is a
multi-platform public arts project that will install 100 images of the "emerging
Buddha" around the city of Chicago as a way of promoting reflection, dialogue,
and action on themes that include nonviolence, creativity, and the role of art
in transforming public space and promoting positive social change. The images
will be resident in ten Chicago neighborhoods from September 2012 - June 2013.
Rogers Park is one of the ten neighborhoods that has been chosen to
participate in this project!
Rogers Park, the locations of our ten images will be determined
by a public proposal process. Residents, organizations, and
faith-based communities are encouraged to propose sites (private or public) that
they feel will be especially meaningful to our community. In
addition, community members are encouraged to sponsor events and/or
create additional images (including those reflecting our neighborhood's
diverse spiritual traditions) to encourage public dialogue and
reflection on the project's themes.
