Academic Libraries and Service Learning: Engaging your Local and Global Community
- The purpose of this site is to promote, engage, and collaborate with other Academic Libraries involved with Service Learning and/or Community Engagement. We envision a worldwide network, or repository, for all libraries to document their discoveries and experiences.
- The University of Nebraska - Omaha, Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Library is creator and editor of this site. We firmly believe we have an opportunity to be leaders in demonstrating the effectiveness, and thereby the importance of, Library Science programs by bringing purpose to the educational experience of Library Science students through a community engagement/service learning emphasis. We see providing Library Science students the opportunity to become catalysts of social change not only as an incredible prospect, but also as being critical to the future of our profession.
- You will find a copy of our Poster Presentation from the 2009 14th ACRL National Conference in Seattle is located on the Projects page. We have invited all who gave us their names and email addresses to follow and contribute to this site.
- Additionally, we invite all who are currently engaged with Service Learning or Community Engagement to add their experiences on the Projects page. It is our hope this site will become a valuable resource for all who are interested in becoming actively engaged with their communities.
