There is an extensive collection of information posted up in the "Sitemap" section, or click on the Directory for a conventient, but incomplete, listing of compounds. There is also a listing of other hobbyist websites in "Links".
The purpose of this site is to serve as a side reference page, and archive store, for the more unusual energetic compounds, for which relevant information is harder to find.
This site, then, serves as both a store of potential ideas for new compounds, and strives to be an authoritative compliment to even the highest quality alternate amateur sites that exist, but of course inaccuracies will inevitably exist. You therefore may wish to verify any information here with outside sources, although in most cases alternate sources will be impossible to obtain.
This site is to share information about the amateur creation of experimental propellents and explosives that have ideal properties. Amazingly, almost all of the compounds, besides the precursors, that can be found in this site, are estimated to be more powerful than HMX, or with combination of high power with exceptional insensitivity that can outperform a composition of HMX for any given leven of desired insensitivity.
All precursors should be easily available, as they have every-day alternate purposes and uses in common commercial products. With several long enough strings of reaction procedures, it is possible to make almost any chemical imaginable from household or easily obtained starting materials.
The "How to Make" is intended only for very small scale production, no more than a few grams. Compounds or procedures that could easily be scaled up to allow production on a larger scale (greater than a few g) have been avoided, and are generally not posted on this site. This site is not intended to be a "recipe book" on how to make explosives, neither does it attempt to educate on basic chemistry. Rather it is meant to show those with high levels of chemical knowledge, who already routinely make explosives as a hobby, how to make different new and challenging compounds. There is plenty of information elsewhere on the web about how to make explosives, and if that is an individual reader's only goal, than nothing here will be useful, since the reaction steps for the more interesting energetic compounds described here are much more complicated, and the procedures far more complex and difficult. A reader who does not already know how to make basic explosive compounds will certainly not be able to understand anything posted here enough to reproduce it, and so there is little danger of the information in these pages being misused. This site does not contain any simple procedures that require only limited knowledge of chemistry.
This site should also be an interesting read for those with an interest in organic chemistry, and for online readers who just like to follow up on the chemistry of explosives, without actually experimenting. In fact, the focus of this site is theoretical chemistry rather than experimental. Anyone that just wants to present their ideas is welcome to, you need conduct an experiment. Many of the designs presented here have yet to move beyond initial theory.
