(the resulting compound from the reaction has a correct structure of 1-chloro-3,4-furoxan-4-methoxy-benzene, which is basically picture 1b, except the methoxy group should be on the bottom) See attachment below, reaction might be easier to do nitration first, then dry NH3 gas, but the order probably does not matter. The methoxy group can survive a cold nitration.
