Nature of Work

Summary of Projects

During my 3 months as an intern, I worked on a few different projects. The first project was writing This Month in ACLU History postings for the ACLU Loop intranet site to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the organization. After researching the print issues of the Civil Liberties Quarterly for notable events between the years of 1935 - 1962, I wrote 1 posting for each month (June, July, and August). Each listed several significant or interesting events in the ACLU's history.

As an ongoing project over the 3 months, I created retroactive folder inventories for records boxes cataloged in InMagic Genie. When needed, I also assigned subject headings, corrected inclusive dates, and housed loose documents. I successfully completed folder inventories for all 14 boxes that were assigned to me.

Another project I worked on was scanning print publications to create reference images which can be accessed from the catalog record. After scanning each publication, I cropped and cleaned up the image, created a thumbnail and uploaded it to the publication's catalog record, and, finally, added a link to the reference image to the catalog record. I successfully completed scanning 62 publications (nearly 3 boxes).

Finally, I had the opportunity to catalog 1 newly accessioned records box, which contained audio and video tapes as well as other documents, using the guidelines for cataloging new accessions in the Archives manual.
