Welcome to the new site for Empires Ablaze. Empires Ablaze is a "What If ?" mod based on The War In The Pacific computer wargame released by Matrix Games.

What were the "What Ifs ?"

Empires Ablaze is postulated on a great upheaval occuring in Japan in the early 1930s in which a visionary group of naval aviators and senior army officers combined with industrialists to overthrow the previous government out of a desire to secure the ascendancy of the Imperial Line for another thousand years. Even at this early stage the industrialists, naval aviators and army officers realised that the only way to secure the survival of the Imperial Line was through ensuring the utter self-sufficiency of the Japanese peoples and economy through:
a) a massive expansion of the tools of production on the Home Islands and
b) the securing of a Pan-Pacific Economic Zone of Co-Operation ( PPEZCO ) which would secure all of the raw materials ( oil, resources, labour and agricultural land ) required for industrial and agricultural independence.

In addition a secondary goal by these adherents of Douhet was to ensure that no enemy would ever be able to threaten the Home Islands from the air or sea again. With this in mind the military component of the coup began upgrading and expanding the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy so as to be able to capture the land bases from which the newest generation of long-distance bombers then being proposed by the Soviet Union, Britain and America could threaten the Emperor's safety. The planning of production and militay operations was conducted by a joint military tribunal under the command of the Emperor's personally selected plenipotentiary giving Japan the crucial advantage of an unambiguous command structure with one man acting on behalf of and as an embodiment of the Emperor's will --- a situation which ensures the obedience of all present.

After 8 years of solid,  labour but, crucially, 2 years before they felt themselves utterly ready Japan stands ready to unleash a torrent of destruction on the world. It's forces are formidable and capable but, crucially, the new generation of fighers, bombers, carriers and CAAAs, CLAAs is not yet ready and will only begin to appear over the course of 1942.

Can you, as the Emperor's plenipotentiary balance the competing needs of the economy, the navy and the army and craft a strategy to win the war?

This mod features a particular emphasis on the economy and logistics of any strategic undertaking and a dichotomy between the needs to maintain production of current generation planes and ships to replace losses whilst allocating the necessary resources to produce the next generation of planes and ships in a timely manner lest the next generation of Allied planes and ships overwhelm you. In this mod you'll get nothing for free and will routinely find yourself with a whole gamut of mouth-watering options designed to quickly lead you into abject failure should you not be disciplined enough to restrain yourself from trying everything at once.

In testing this mod has resulted in both a speedy Japanese march to an almost unassailable position and speedy Japanese collapse. More than most other mods you are given the opportunity to excel but only at the cost of an increased chance of abject failure. So, just how good are you?
