General Election Position Statement

posted May 21, 2017, 12:44 PM by Karin Muller Tahir   [ updated May 21, 2017, 12:44 PM ]

As the General Election approaches, and political parties lay out their plans for the next parliamentary term, we at Ely Refugee Resettlement Campaign believe it is imperative that refugees continue to be helped and protected.

We have written a position statement that expresses our main concerns and outlines what we would like to see from all political parties. We have also written a few questions that you can ask your prospective parliamentary candidate.

Please help us make sure the refugees are on every political party's agenda. Contact your prospective parliamentary candidate to find out how they plan to continue helping refugees.

First Syrian family arrives in Ely

posted Mar 6, 2017, 2:47 AM by Karin Muller Tahir   [ updated Mar 6, 2017, 2:47 AM ]

We are extremely excited about the arrival of the first Syrian family in early February. The family, 2 adults and 2 children, have been resettled in Ely through the Vulnerable People Relocation Scheme. Cambridge City Council are responsible for the process of resettlement and we have been working with them to welcome the family to Ely. They are settling in well.

With the help of many of our supporters we were able to supply all the soft furnishings for their new home. We also provided a Welcome Pack with groceries and other essential items.

Our next major step is to find another house that we can offer to another family. Please get in touch if you have a vacant property, one that is becoming vacant soon or if you know anyone that does.
