Quarter Peal Report 2016

(2015 figures in brackets)

The data used for this report has been extracted entirely from BellBoard and includes all quarters rung in the geographical boundaries of the Diocese of Ely.

A total of 572 quarters have been recorded, which is down on last year’s total of 583.

The running order of the Districts remains the same with 253 (244) in the Cambridge District; 158 (192) in the Huntingdon District; 149 (135) in the Ely District; and 12(12) in the Wisbech District.

A total of 533 (492) ringers have taken part.  Janet Garnett once again retains the top position with those running up coming nowhere near her total.  Those ringing 20+ appear in the table below:

With so many quarters under her belt it is not surprising that the leading conductor was also Janet Garnett, closely followed by Phillip George and Edith Robinson.

Congratulations to the 16 (20) who have rung a quarter for the first time - they are:

Alasdair R J Catmur    Catherine Simcock    Jamie Holden               Nathaniel J Yealands-Flints
Althea Nelson            Gerard Bland           Jason Bumet               Sarah Wayman
Andrew J Carlotti        Greg Davidson         Matt Machin Autenrieth  Toby Johnson
Angus Gentles           Imogen Smith          Michael P Leeson          Tricia Rowland

First in hand: Colin MacDonald and Bela Nelson.

Conducting for the first time were Bronwen Laugharne (1st as sole conductor), Philip Marshall, Clare George, and Cass Boocock.

Only 48 (70) were recorded as service ringing which is only 8% of the total, the remaining 92% must therefore be for other events or just for fun.  We must thank all those incumbents and churchwardens who readily give us permission to ring at the many towers in our Diocese.

A record number date touches of 2016 changes were rung this year – 18 in total which included 3 on handbells.  It must have been an easy number for the composers.

I am sure that there are many quarters of note for ringers where milestones have been achieved (1st inside, 1st in method, etc) – too many to mention here, but congratulations go out to them all.

No apologies for finishing with the normal pleas – publish as soon as possible, quarters submitted a week late are old news! Keep footnotes as brief as possible and Christian names please and if applicable middle initial.  We are still getting Richard Smith, as well as Richard A. and Richard C.!!

Sheila J. George
