Elmas Deniz, 1981 Bergama, Turkey.

She lives and works in Istanbul. Beside her artistic practices she is a writer and initiator of various artist run initiatives and self-organized structures. She is founder of Merkezkaç publications, 2011. She was one of the founders and project directors of K2 Artist Initiative between 2004-2007 in Izmir and founder member of Kutu [Box] Portable Art Gallery in 2002. 

She is interested in global power structures, state-control, urbanism, and globalization, as it is reflected in her organizational as well as artistic practice.

Recently she has focused on poverty in urban context, also the value system that operative in capitalist societies. In a symbolic manner, her recent works proposes us to think about another possibilities than money directed, consumerist culture through use of nature as a tool for it.
