Welcome to the Boston School Committee English Language Learners Task Force site.
The purpose of the Task Force is to provide guidance to the Boston School Committee, the Superintendent, and Boston Public Schools (BPS) in the vision and development of a plan of action that responds to the new demographics of the BPS for students whose home language is not English. In addition, we want to prepare the English-speaking students of the BPS to take their rightful place in a global economy with access to cultural competence and multi-lingual skills.
The ELL Task Force met monthly for two years and sought input and recommendations from students, parents, teachers, principals, support staff and administrators as well as external partners and relevant stakeholders. The ELL Task Force made recommendations to the Boston School Committee in March, 2011 and these recommendations were endorsed by the School Committee in June, 2011. Since September, 2012 the Task Force has continued to act as a monitoring body that meets bi-monthly to review progress made towards implementing the recommendations.
