Elizabeth Setren is the Gunnar Myrdal Assistant Professor of Economics at Tufts University. Her research focuses on understanding the impact of school reforms on narrowing achievement gaps. Prof. Setren’s work includes analysis of school integration in Massachusetts, the impact of integration on schools, and school discipline reform. She has studied the effects of Boston charter schools on special education students and English Language Learners, the scaling of the Boston charter sector, and the effects of learning technology, the flipped classroom, and blended learning. She received her Ph.D. in Economics from MIT. She was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the National Bureau of Economics Research (NBER) and an Assistant Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Prof. Setren has received research funding from the U.S. Department of Education Institute for Education Sciences, the Spencer Foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, The Boston Foundation, and The Balfour Foundation. Her research has been covered by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Boston Herald, The 74, NPR, and other news outlets.
