Champions' Favors for HRM Griffith II

In October, 2010 I received a request for my work in preparing favors for His Majesty, Griffith II to give to his Champions.  There are 6 Championships in the East:
      • Archery
      • Arts & Sciences
      • Bardic
      • Equestrian
      • Heavy Weapons
      • Rapier
Additionally, HIs Majesty's reign will include competitions for three of those (Rapier, Bardic and Arts & Sciences), making the need a total of nine favors.
The design and color choices were provided.  The only other requirement was that the favors be primarily embroidery and substantially the same. I used Vinyard Green linen from, black Splendor (silk) thread, gold Au Ver A Soir (silk) thread and Kreinik gold braid #8. The stitches used were split stitch, back stitch, satin stitch and chain stitch. The favors were cut long -- using the full width of the fabric folded over. There is no belt loop, however each bears a note to the receipient describing the favor and offering to add a loop if the recepient wishes. I signed each favor on the back with my SCA initials (EM) and a small acorn. Work began in early December 2010 and the last favor was completed on February 10, 2011
I decided to trim the favor for each type of championship in a different manner, one which would be fitting for that championship.  The three for which two favors were to be made would be trimed in an identical manner.
Here are photos of the favors:
Six of the favors were shown at the A&S Display at 12th Night. Because the Rapier Champions were scheduled for the following weekend, the two Rapier favors were completed for turn over for that event, with Archery and the second Bardic and A&S to follow.

Archery -- Trim is fletching

Note in this photo the fabric is much more blue looking than it actually was, a problem with the lighting.

A&S -- Trim is decorative braid with tassles

Above, the first A&S favor; Below, the 2nd A&S favo (second photo taken with cell phone
in less than stellar lighting...)

 Bardic -- Trim is bells.

Above, the first favor for Bardic Champion; Below, the second favor for Bardic Champion.  Yes, I used a different number of bells! (Again with the blueness from the lighting)

Equestrian -- Trim is white bone rings (which I thought to represent the rings used in some Equestrian games)

Heavy Weapons -- Trim is brown shell disks (to represent shields)

 Rapier -- Trim is cording

Above, the first favor for Rapier Champion; Below, the second favor for Rapier Champion. Note the heavier stitching on the "GR" --- this was actually the first one I made. Once it was done I decided I did not like the heavy GR and switched to using one strand of the gold.

Signature -- Substantially the same on each favor
