Elizabeth Young

Elizabeth Young is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Michigan. In her doctoral dissertation, she examines the relationship between national identity, Islam, and democratization in post-revolutionary Tunisia. While at EIP, she will study voter confidence and participation in the 2011 and 2014 Tunisian elections. Additional research interests include electoral politics, secessionism, state formation, and citizenship. Previously, she worked with the National Democratic Institute on governance and election programs in the Middle East and North Africa, with a focus on Yemen and the Gulf States. She has also served an international election observer with NDI and the OSCE in Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Tunisia, and Yemen.
