Carla Luis

Carla Luis

Carla Luis is pursuing a PhD program at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. With her thesis project “UN peace-building and the role of electoral systems: the case of Timor-Leste”, she studies the impact of electoral systems on the consolidation of peace within UN interventions. Carla has worked in Timor-Leste as a UNDP electoral legal adviser and he has also completed her fieldwork there in 2012 and 2013. She has been a board member of the Portugese National Election Commission since 2009, Carla is also a teacher in Civic and Human Rights education, and in the past she worked as a Legal Adviser at the Portugese Parliament. Carla holds a Masters’ Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC, Venice) and graduated in Law at the Law Faculty of the New University of Lisbon. Her research interests include electoral systems, peace-building, post-conflict and the Southeast Asia region.
