Dr Eleana Asimakopoulou is an independent scientist. She is research active in the area of disaster management. Her research interests include Crisis Management; Strategic Planning; Emergency Planning; Risk Assessment; Resilience; Environmental Issues/Risks; Emergency Response; Post-Disaster Reconstruction; Post-Disaster Relocation; Urban Planning; Construction Management; Data Analysis and Decision Tools; Internet of Things; Clouds; Context-aware GIS; Systems Development Techniques; Soft Systems Methodology; Technical Architecture; and User Needs Analysis.


She received a BSc in Architecture from the University of Bedfordshire in 2003, an MA from the University Westminster in 2009 and a PhD from Loughborough University in 2008. She has worked as a lecturer and a visiting researcher in various institutions including Barnfield College, the University of Bedfordshire and the Hellenic National Defence College. Since 2011, she is serving the European Commission and the Hellenic Government as an Expert Evaluator for proposals for funding in the areas of security, space, cultural heritage, and IT.


Eleana has been involved in several projects and has published more that 70 peer reviewed publications in international conferences, journals, and books. She has co-edited two books, she is an associate editor of the IJDST and she has co-organised a several international conferences and workshops.
