Memories
I lived in Eldorado from 1956 to 1965. Arriving as a 7 year old and leaving at 16. I went to elementary school in Eldorado( I remember Ms. McKnight) and was transported by bus to Uranuim City for junior and high school.I went to Gilchrist(Mr Gitterman) and Shannon school ( Peter Kucey) as well as the high school. We lived in a close knit town ,with no television( had cbc radio though) the rec hall and ice rink were the center of our lives then. The rec hall had a movie theatre,2 lane bowling alley, pool hall, cafeteria as well as a gymnasium and attached curling rink. We could practice basketball, play badminton , volleyball and lift barbells in the weight room. For most of the time I can remember there was a library as well. .Hunting and fishing was something that we did a lot of as well. Fishing was spectacular, any direction led to a lake and jackfish ,(Northern Pike) who loved our red devils!
I just received this yearbook from Linda Woodward / McCann ........... A 1952-53 Beaverlodge School Yearbook...hard to believe that it has survived all these 70+ years.. What a treasure it is! Lots of interesting stories of school life way back then.. Thanks Linda. post office
The first post office was established in 1953 with John Edgar Hamlin as postmaster; E.A.Garton (Ed) was the postmaster from Jan 11,1955 through to April 29.1970.The post office was closed July 20 1982 with Mrs. May A. Grona as the last postmaster. I worked in the post office for a year and a half ,started when I was 15. I sorted mail, also worked on the wicket( in those days the post office was also a bank)Ed Garton let my handle a lot of stuff,it was a great learning experience. I remember Mrs. Paziuk also worked there. There were times when planes did not land for days, due to bad weather, so when they did you had a huge pile of mail and newspapers. It was feast or famine.!
