Major Earthquake Shakes the Bay Area

A 7.0 earthquake along the Hayward Fault struck the Bay Area this morning, October 21, 2009 at 9:10 am. The earthquake originated in San Pablo Bay and traveled south to Lake Chabot, lasting about 22 seconds. Governor Schwarzenegger and President Obama have requested declarations of emergency. The extent of the damage is still being determined. The public should continue to check this website for the updated local information.
