Cough Syrup

Onion Cough Syrup - an old favourite of mine
for an unproductive cough or tickly cough
 
Take a large onion and slice it thinly - arrange a layer in a clean glass jam jar.
 
Sprinkle over a layer of dark brown sugar (or white if you prefer).  Repeat with another layer of onion then another layer of sugar.
 
Press down with a spoon to squash the sugar into contact with the onion.  Put a lid on the jar and leave in the fridge overnight (or at least a few hours).
 
You will see thick black syrup forming inside the jar - gradually all the sugar turns thick and dark (unless you use white sugar). 
It is this syrup which is good for coughs.
 
Take one or two teaspoons several times daily especially at breakfast - it is safe to take it during the night too.
This has always worked to help loosen my cough.
